Investment Philosophy

Our investment philosophy is simple: pay very close attention to our clients' portfolios (every security is monitored every day), so as to maximize performance with the least amount of volatility, keep fees reasonable and trading costs low, and minimize the tax implications of our clients' investments.

At Reyes Capital we employ a top-down investment discipline. This means beginning with a thorough analysis of the macroeconomic environment, both in the United States and the world. Next we identify sectors and industries that we feel will perform well at this stage in the economic cycle. This leads us to identify the specific securities we will use in the portfolios.

We utilize a Growth-at-a-Reasonable-Price (GARP) style of fundamental equity investing. This style is a composite of the value and growth disciplines. Our approach is to invest in companies that are reasonably valued and have good prospects for earnings growth going forward. For more detail on our approach to equity investing, please see the 'Equities' tab.

Minimizing taxes and keeping investing costs low are of significant importance to us and to our clients. To that end, any actively managed mutual funds are held in tax-deferred accounts. Taxable fixed-income investments are also held in tax-deferred accounts, if possible. We will place tax-efficient index funds in brokerage accounts when there are insufficient funds to properly diversify with individual equities. We diligently avoid taking short-term capital gains in taxable accounts, and therefore place volatile stocks in tax-deferred accounts. We do not attempt to time the market and we trade sparingly.
